Strategy Students participate in two levels of online leadership training, Youth Leadership Development, Series 1 and 2. Volunteer hours with the designated organization is encouraged as follow-up to the certification. This can be made mandatory before receiving the certification, or it can be on the honor system. Overview The Youth Leadership Development, Series 1 certification program helps students develop leadership skills in five areas:
When enrolled in this leadership program, learners must complete the 5 courses before receiving their formal online certification. Each course is 5 clock hours and eligible for CEU/CPE credit. When you have completed all 5 courses, return to your Course Queue and click on the Youth Leadership Development link. Click on the Certification button to view and print your Leadership Certification showing 2.5 CEU or 25 CPE credits granted. |

OBJECTIVES | To develop the emotional intelligence of students through specifically designed training for youth leadership development Through interactive and action-based lessons, learners will develop specific skills. These include: Conflict Management: Understanding, developing, and managing one’s emotional intelligence; developing effective communication skills; learning to foster a conflict-competent environment; developing strategies for managing and resolving conflicts Diversity Awareness: Overcoming the resistance to diversity; preparing to increase diversity; recruiting to increase diversity; managing and leveraging diversity Giving and Receiving Constructive Feedback: Identifying differences in personality style; giving feedback constructively; overcoming one’s own resistance to feedback; receiving and actively soliciting feedback Public Speaking Fundamentals: Overcoming the fear of public speaking; preparing a topic; structuring a speech; exciting an audience; delivering a speech effectively Stress Management: Understanding stress and its external and internal sources; developing strategies for reducing long-term stress; building a tolerance to stress; reducing or eliminating short-term situations that cause stress; learning techniques for immediately reducing stress |
