OVERVIEW

Strategy

Students participate in two levels of online leadership training, Youth Leadership Development, Series 1 and 2. Volunteer hours with the designated organization is encouraged as follow-up to the certification. This can be made mandatory before receiving the certification, or it can be on the honor system.

Overview

The Youth Leadership Development, Series 2 certification program helps students develop leadership skills in five areas:

  • Effective Facilitation of Meetings

  • Organization Skills

  • Project Planning

  • Team Building

  • Time Management

When enrolled in this leadership program, learners must complete the 5 courses before receiving their formal online certification. Each course is 5 clock hours and eligible for CEU/CPE credit.

When you have completed all 5 courses, return to your Course Queue and click on the Youth Leadership Development link. Click on the Certification button to view and print your Leadership Certification showing 2.5 CEU or 25 CPE credits granted.

OBJECTIVES

To develop the emotional intelligence of students through specifically designed training for youth leadership development

Through interactive and action-based lessons, learners will develop specific skills. These include:

Effective Facilitation of Meetings: Projecting meeting outcomes; setting the agenda; establishing roles for key participants; facilitating; capitalizing on meeting outcomes

Organizational Skills: Sorting and eliminating clutter at home and school; building a system of organization for the management of your time and the storage of important information; achieving a balanced and holistic lifestyle

Project Planning: Understanding and developing project specification skills, including setting objectives and scoping; breaking down work into manageable and delegable components; iteratively structuring a project over time, taking into account resources, interdependencies, and the critical path; instituting control processes into the project plan

Team Building: Understanding the difference between a team and a working group and knowing when a team is useful and appropriate; forming an effective team; developing a team to be the most productive; managing a team

Time Management: Clarifying your goals and priorities; planning your time effectively; handling people and projects that waste your time; overcoming procrastination; structuring your life based on the value of time
